Black Ocean are an alternative
rock band from Yorkshire
The band consists of:
Jonny Nelson - Bass/Vocals
Mark Robinson - Guitar
Josh Lawson - Guitar
Will Price - Drums
After originally forming as
a 3 piece (Jonny, Josh and Will) back in 2005 the band originally
jammed on Nirvana covers as well as writing some of their
own material. This eventually ground to a holt a few months
later. It wasn't until a year later the band decided to start
again scrapping all the material from their previous outing.
It wasn't long until the band arranged their first gig, playing
to around 9 people in Will's bedroom. After some more house
party appearances the band were invited to play the Music
Mafia Party which was held at the Crown Hotel in Harrogate.
This marked the bands first show at an actual venue. After
their short set they were approached by Mark who asked if
he could join the band which they accepted.
A show at the Manhattan Club supporting local band Thumbsaw
followed before the band headed into the studio in April 2009
to record their debut EP known to the rest of the world as
'Unzip and Listen'.
The rest of 2009 saw the band writing new material as well
as playing around Harrogate which included their first headline
show at Bar No. 19 as part of Bash Studio's 'Bash Night'
2010 has seen the band play their first shows outside of Harrogate
appearing at York Fibbers twice as well as record several
new demos in the early part of the year.
In July the band took to the studio once again with Dan Mizen
to record their second EP, 'The Small Things In Life'.
The first track released from the EP was 'Rain And Thunder'
which was available to hear on the band's myspace a week before
'TSTIL' was released as a free download on www.blackocean.co.uk.
The band are currently booking shows to perform their new
material and some old favourites aswell.
